[edit] Institutions In The School:

[edit] International Baccalaureate (IB) at BD Somani International School

Image:Principaljg.jpg
The Principal John Gardner

Welcome to the BD Somani International School. BDSIS is a unique school set in the quiet greenery of Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai. It is the only school in this part of the city that offers, as its curriculum, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. 2007 will be a special year for the school when, in July, we will welcome our second batch of grade 11 students. They will join our present class and so bring our total enrolment to 120 students.

BDSIS offers the IB Diploma Programme to students in grades 11 and 12. The school provides a good choice of subjects in all of the compulsory sections of the IB curriculum and has a team of experienced and well-qualified teachers to deliver the academic programmes.

Whilst providing a demanding academic curriculum, the school also recognises the importance of the development of the non-academic aspects of a student’s development. We believe in the importance of individual students and are eager to encourage them all to realise their full potential.

An integral part of the IB curriculum is the CAS progamme that requires students to complete a specified number of hours of sports, creative and service activities. We are developing a variety of options at the school to facilitate these CAS objectives. These include classes in Model United Nations, yoga, music, aerobics, football, basketball, badminton and table tennis as well as social service opportunities at a number of local NGOs.

As part of its learner profile for the IB student, the International Baccalaureate Organisation has given the aim of developing ‘‘internationally minded people who will help to create a better and more peaceful world”. This is a laudable and yet urgently necessary educational aim. The mission of BDSIS through its academic programme, its extra-curricular activities, the dedication of its staff and its commitment to bring out the best in its students seeks to implement this aim of the IBO
