I removed "This system arose after Singapore's 1965 split from Malaysia, due, in part, to their dissatisfaction with Ketuanan Melayu, a Malaysian system of racialist beliefs that benefits only the Malays who are said to be Bumiputeras ("Melayu" is the Malay word for "Malay")." from the article.

It's ridiculous, the separation occurred in 1965 but the quotas introduced in 1980 - as such, a contradiction with established facts. Rajan Rishayakaran 08:35, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

"Shortly after independence, Singapore faced a serious problem of housing shortages. In response, the government passed the Housing and Development Act of 1960 which replaced the existing Singapore Improvement Trust with the Housing and Development Board."

How could the government pass a law in 1960 in response to problem that occured "shortly after independence". Singapore did not become independent from the UK until 1963, and Malaysia in 1965. I think someone is getting independence mixed up with self-government (which Britain granted in 1959).

The HDB upgrading programme has at times been accused of acting as an instrument for pork-barrel politics on the part of the PAP, yet I see no mention of this on either this page or "Politics of Singapore".
