Talk:Houseplant care

from VfD:

Too broad. Vague. Not encyclopedic. No real information other than instructions to water, but not too much, and don't let the cat get at it. Joyous 00:04, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete: I don't have a cat, and the article forgets to mention anything about light. I'm not against the general topic, but I'm not sure that it's quite on point. It's possible for an angel to come along and completely rewrite this, but, the article, as nominated, is non-encyclopedic. Geogre 00:31, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Comment - isn't Wikibooks the place for manuals? Average Earthman 08:52, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • AE, do you think this is sufficient for the transwiki? Just a question. Geogre 16:59, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
      • It it's not good enough for transwiki, then delete. If it is, transwiki, then delete. It's not an encyclopedia article, anyway. Average Earthman 21:47, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Can be improved. Only strip off the specific lists and advices, which should be in the "how to...". Mikkalai 18:43, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Transwiki to Wikibooks. Davodd 16:42, Sep 4, 2004 (UTC)

  • Delete. An article not even 20% finished is not a keeper, no matter the topic. While this could have some value as an article once the several blank sections are completed, I still believe a transwiki to "how-to" is in order. I am, BTW, so surrounded by houseplants that I have to make my way very crefully in the dark. Denni 01:14, 2004 Sep 6 (UTC)
  • Keep. Remove lists, rearrange as a stub (with stub label). Or are people just embarrassed Wikipedia has nothing beyond the basics on such an everyday topic? zoney ▓   ▒ talk 11:48, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • When the lists are removed, what's left, other than some version of "Plants need different amounts of water, light, and different kinds of soil..."? Information about the care of a specific houseplant would be more useful in the plant's own article. Joyous 20:48, Sep 6, 2004 (UTC)
  • Copy opening paragraph into houseplant, then transwiki. -Sean Curtin 19:53, Sep 6, 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Agree with the keepers.--Dittaeva 16:08, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep.--Xed 09:59, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Merge valuable content into houseplant which is practically empty. Possibly create lists of low, medium and high light requiring plants. Delete this article. It is possible to write an encyclopedia article about the topic (different schools of housplant care; history of houseplant care; religious aspects of houseplant care etc.etc.etc.) but this isn't it and it isn't even a useful start. Hello, I was looking to add a link to http://houseplants-care.blogspot.com to the external links on this page, because that site provides a lot of good care information similar to other links listed in the external links section. Does anyone have any feedback as to whether the site should or should not be listed? Thanks, Drayas99 17:52, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Generally blogs should not be listed unless "written by a recognized authority" (see links normally to be avoided). The site is pretty extensive though, and isn't so much a blog as articles in blog form. For these reasons I don't see a problem in the link itself, but it should be weighed against the currently present links to see whether it is of higher value or not. Judging from the other links I'm going to reinclude it and remove a less helpful one in exchange. — Sam 19:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
