Category:Houses in Yorkshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yorkshire is an historic English county that has existed for over 1000 and is split into three "Ridings" (North, East and West) but on 1st April 1974 the 1972 Local Government Act came into force and replaced all the councils across the three Riding with new councils some of which did not bear the name "Yorkshire" . since that date there has been confusion about what constitutes Yorkshire even though the 1972 Local Government Act never intended to change any geographical counties in Britain. There is an explanation here www.abcounties.co.uk as well as a gazetteer showing the correct geographical counties of cities, towns and villages and the name of the present local councils.
