Dartmouth College Radio, call sign WDCR-AM, is an independently run, non-commercial college radio station located in Hanover, New Hampshire on the campus of Dartmouth College. Owned by the Trustees of Dartmouth College, and first broadcast on March 4, 1958, Dartmouth College Radio is run by students of Dartmouth College in conjunction with a minimal professional staff. Serving the immediate area around Hanover, including Lebanon and White River Junction, Vermont on a 1000-Watt signal, the station currently broadcasts a combination of free-form college shows and simulcasted modern rock, from its sister station WFRD-FM 99 Rock, which itself was spun off from WDCR in 1976.
WDCR has a rich history associated with itself, being located at a frequency of 1340 KHz on the AM radio band since becoming a licensed station of the FCC in 1958. Dartmouth Broadcasting as a whole dates back to the 1920s, when WDCR's predecessor, WDBS, short for Dartmouth Broadcasting System, transmitted its signals across copper wires linking dormitories on the Dartmouth campus.
