Hot Coal is an unincorporated community located along the Winding Gulf Creek in Raleigh County, West Virginia, United States. .It is the next community past Big Stick on County Route 3/2.
It was part of the Winding Gulf coalfield. The community's name origin is not known, but as a former coal camp, it was probably named Hot Coal because of the coal that was mined in the area.
