[edit] Resolution

The resolution of sheet music does not actually matter when an editor creates the image himself; this only applies to photographs and the like. The image is not copyrighted, as I created it; it's the music that is copyrighted. The higher resolution image that I uploaded actually ends up being of better quality when placed in the article, so I'm going to revert to the old version. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 18:46, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

The image is a derivative work of the copyrighted music, meaning that it too is subject to copyright. WP:NONFREE states that all copyrighted images should be of low resolution to limit use outside of Wikipedia. There's no additional information conveyed at a higher resolution, so there's no way to justify having it at a higher resolution. ShadowHalo 01:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
It really doesn't matter, and WP:NONFREE should probably be altered to reflect this (as I'm sure they didn't take free sheet music of copyrighted compositions into account), but this is not worth an edit war, so you can keep your version. Also, it's notable that you cannot copyright a chord progression, which is essentially what this excerpt is (I would not really call the upper staff a melody). -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 04:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
