The Hofkriegsrat was the Court Council of War of the Habsburg Monarchy. In Tolstoy's War and Peace, a retired Russian officer (Prince Nikolai Andreevich Bolkonski) calls it the Hofs-kriegs-Wurst-Schnapps-Rath, in honor of the staff's favorite fare.
