Description

The seaplane carrier HMS ENGADINE at anchor. She was owned by South Eastern and Chatham Railway Company and was attached to Admiral Tyrwhitt's Command, taking part in operations of the Bight and being present at the air raid on Cuxhaven in 1914. Later she was attached to the battlecruiser fleet that took part in the battle of Jutland, where one of her seaplanes spotted the High Seas Fleet but was unable to contact the British forces to tell them of the discovery. ENGADINE was however able to save six hundred crew members of the cruiser HMS WARRIOR when she was taken in tow after suffering heavy damage during the battle before sinking the next day.
