HMS Firebrand (1694)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are multiple vessels named HMS Firebrand.
The Royal Navy commissioned a fireship named HMS Firebrand in 1694.[1] It was the first Royal Naval vessel named HMS Firebrand. She served in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.[2] The Firebrand was lost in 1707 when a disastrous navigational error sent Admiral Sir Cloudesly Shovell's fleet through dangerous reefs near the Scilly Isles west of Cornwall.
In 2006 an expedition was dispatched to explore the wreck.[2] It was the first time a fireship of this era had been explored.
