HMGS-Great Lakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

H.M.G.S.-Great Lakes is an Ohio-based chapter of the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, a non-profit organization devoted to advancing the hobby of miniature wargaming.

The Great Lakes chapter is a Historical, Sci-Fi and Role-playing gaming group of adults who conduct several gaming conventions in the Great Lakes region each year—"Advance the Colors" in September (the flagship convention, normally held in Springfield, Ohio), and several smaller regional conventions, including "WarParty" and "WarBand" (both in Cincinnati), "Drums Along the Maumee" (Toledo, Ohio), "Crossroads" (Cambridge, Ohio), and others. Membership is primarily comprised of wargamers in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, and Kentucky, although other states are represented as well.

The Great Lakes chapter members also present over a thousand player hours of miniatures gaming at GAMA's Origins Gaming Convention in Columbus, Ohio each summer.

The members are active in all periods of historical miniatures. Those periods include (but are not limited to) Ancients, Pike & Musket, Napoleonic, WWI, WWII, and modern. Genres represented are skirmish, tactical, grand-tactical, infantry, armor, ships and aircraft.

HMGS-Great Lakes publishes a popular newsletter / magazine, The Herald, which has wargaming articles, chapter events and finances, local club news, regional gaming shop information, and other information of interest to miniature wargamers.

Back issues of "The Herald" are available online from MagWeb.
