AWM Caption: In Australian waters. Two Bristol Sycamore type 171 helicopters hover above the aircraft carrier HMAS Vengeance. The Colossus class carrier HMS Vengeance was completed on 15 January 1945 and joined the British Pacific Fleet. After the war she was employed on training duties until 1947 when she joined a small force of Royal Navy ships undertaking endurance trials in the Arctic. Vengeance was loaned to the RAN in 1952, arriving in Sydney on 11 March 1952. She served in the RAN until 1955 when HMAS Melbourne was completed and she reverted to the Royal Navy. She was transferred to the Brazilian Navy in 1956 and re-named Minas Gerais.
