[edit] Maps

Some maps here would be great. I might try to source some, but other people may well beat me to it (please?) — OwenBlacker 18:38, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

How about this one? [1] — Misterantithesis 21:31, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Change to Italian penninsula?

Would it be better to have this topic be about the Italian Penninsula rather than Italy proper? That way We could include San Marino. Before Italian unification, it was really no different than any other nearby state, but it gets left off of this list. Also, Vatican City was part of Italy for a while, now it isn't, so it doesn't get included, but really should.

Yeah clearly that would be better. Surely the whole point of the article is that - look it hasn't always been italy! there were loads of independent states around. The current italian borders are less static than the penninsular itself, so the latter should be used as the catchment area.

San Marino was clearly a historical state of Italy prior to 1861. It's only after that that a distinction between the "Italian Peninsula" and "Italy" makes any sense. john k 19:38, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Also peninsular Italy would seem to exclude the islands. ‘Kingdom of the One Sicily’? —Ian Spackman 09:38, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

San Marino is still in Italy, but doesn't belong to the Italian Republic --Paolo da Reggio 15:42, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1494

This map is anachronistic. Sardinia and Savoy were not joined until 1720. SamEV 04:20, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Indeed. Sardinia should be the same color as Sicily. john k 05:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
