Hispania Nova is an ancient territory in north Africa occupied by Morrocco since 1631. In latin, the name means "New Hispania" (Hispania was the ancient name of Spain), this zone was a Hispania province since (69-430)

The north part of Hispania Nova was called "Hispania Transfretana" in the spanish-visigoths times (475-534).

Bizancio Empire ocuped the region (534-to Sisebuto)

Sisebuto, king of Spain, reconquest the city. Part of Spain to 709. Melilla was occupied in 696

1260 Castille reconquest Rabat, and abandoned the same year. 1415 Portugal libered Ceuta August 29, 1471 Tanger was libered by Portugal 1497 Castille libered Melilla. July 23, 1508 Spain libered Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera. December 20,1522 Pirats invaded Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera. 1560 Peñón de Alhucemas ceced to Spain 1564 Spain ,with a alianz (Toscana, Doria,Papa , Malta) libered Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera. 1610 Saadita Emperador ceded Larache to Spain. December 6 ,1848 Spain anexed Chafarinas Islands (Terra Nullis)

The text above is poor (and sometimes incomprehensible) English: not good enough for Wikipedia. The text of the main article is clearly wrong, since Marcus Aurelius (161-180) reigned over a hundred years before the Diocese of Africa was created by Diocletian (284-305), and I have grave doubts about the idea of the province being called Hispania Nova. What is the authority for Hispania Nova (or is it just an invention of a Spanish patriot)? Mark O'Sullivan 16:49, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
