Using terms as "dubious city management" and expressing personal opinions about a political party ("Hilversum was one of the first towns to have to suffer the setbacks of the reactionary populist movement called 'Leefbaar'"), does not fit with the political neutrality principle of Wikipedia. Neither the party "Leefbaar Nederland" (which Pim Fortuyn stepped out of before his big rise, forming his own party 'Lijst Pim Fortuyn'), nor the local subdivisions of "Leefbaar Hilversum" and "Leefbaar Utrecht" can be considered an ultra-right-wing movement, it's just a right wing party. I took care of the "dubious city management". The facts were wrong anyway... The declining population is caused by smaller families and fewer people per house, in combination with the inability to expand.

I find it extremely annoying that people keep referring to this country as Holland, whereas only 2 provinces are rightfully called that. When referring to the entire country, it is preferable that 'The Netherlands' is used,as that is how the country is called.
Holland is only 2 provinces, namely Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland.

As an Englishman living in Hilversum I totally agree that this article fails to maintain neutrality. I support the comments made above and suggest this article needs strong editing. Martin, Hilversum 30/8/06

- To call Kelly van der Veer a singer is a bit of a stretch, I say we turn it into something like 'famous transsexual and big brother contestant' or something like that, as she is so very open about het sex change and it is the reason for her fame. And I personally missed the singing career?

- I have never heard of "Marijn Prins (1981), self-proclaimed "Ornithologist Extraordinaire". A search on google had only 9 hits which were not even all about someone who fitted this profile and none from any media attention. As this category is notable people and this Marijn is apperantly not noted I have taken the liberty of removing his name. Kimelinor 20:32, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Neutrality
From a resident: Hilversum is lovely and leafy, very friendly, and with a flourishing town centre. Without any figures for unemployment or crime to quote, all I can say is that they certainly aren't obvious problems, and I do think the town at least deserves to have the sunnier side of its character presented. From another resident: I fully agree with Annamassey. Hilversum is indeed a lovely city in a beautiful setting, surrounded by national parks, woodlands, heather and water. The vast majority of these parks are public, so free for everyone to enjoy. Hilversum also boasts many sports clubs, so there is a lot to do for everyone. Of course, drunken youths sometimes fight it out in the city centre on Saturday night, but if you steer clear from the bars in the city centre after midnight, not a lot can happen to you. So, by international and even national standards Hilversum is a very prosperous and friendly place. I moved to Hilversum from Amsterdam, and trust me when I say that Hilversum is a true oasis of peace and quiet in the very busy urban area around Amsterdam.Jens t 12:49, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
From another resident. I live in the centre. There is trouble every weekend. A close friend was beaten to death on the main street.
The town is covered in dog mess and chewing gum. Out on the beautiful heather someone poisons dogs every year. The lakes are gorgeous but over crowded. The road system is a complete disgrace. I have lived here all my life and have seen a once beautiful town made ugly with horrible new buildings. The media park brings no money to the town only traffic files. Culturally the place is dead apart from pretentious art galleries and second rate festivals. However if you want your hair cut we have 354 hair salons. My family is ethnically

[edit] Villa VPRO
Hilversum features a building called Villa VPRO, by MVRDV architect bureau. MVRDV are one of the most famous contemporary architect bureaux in the world, and the Villa VPRO is one of their best-known projects. But there is no page for "Villa VRPO", neither in the English nor in the Dutch Wikipedia. The Dutch article about MVRDV contains a brief mention about Villa VPRO and its year of construction - in the English article the mention is even shorter. The only other reference to this building can be found in the Dutch article about the VPRO organisation.
No articles about the city of Hilversum mention Villa VPRO.
Villa VPRO is a building known (and studied) by architecture students worldwide. I believe it deserves more information in Wikipedia. It would be appreciated if anyone can contribute something about it.
