Hillsboro Village is a former streetcar suburb located 3 miles south of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. It has become a popular shopping and entertainment district, containing hip shops, vintage clothing stores, a used bookstore, art galleries, non-profit theater, and numerous independent restaurants. Located along Hillsboro Road, a major thoroughfare dating from before the Civil War, Hillsboro village began to take shape in 1920, when two groceries and a pharmacy opened alongside the trolley line which ran down 21st Avenue. The district is adjacent to Vanderbilt University and close to Belmont University and Music Row, which provide a steady stream of customers to the trendy shops. Hillsboro Village is home to the Acklen Avenue Post Office, famous for its wall of autographed photos of country music stars. Hillsboro Village is also the location of the historic Belcourt Theatre.
