Hildegarde Dolson Lockridge (1908—1981) was a poet, playwright and novelist who wrote 14 books, including We Shook the Family Tree, Guess Whose Hair I'm Wearing, To Spite Her Face, and A Dying Fall.
Dolson was born and grew up in Franklin, Pennsylvania, and after college, she moved to New York City, where she wrote for magazines[citation needed] and penned mystery stories. Dolson's best-known work is We Shook the Family Tree, a book about her experiences growing up, which became a successful paperback for Scholastic Press and was adapted for the stage.
Dolson acted as a literary agent for fellow detective writer Richard Lockridge, whom she married in 1965.[1] She died in St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, North Carolina, on January 15, 1981.[2]
