Highlands Elementary

Highlands Elementary was opened in 1996 and is for children in grades pre-k to fifth grade. Many changes have occurred in the schools history, including the after school clubs having electives. The school also has two bands. During the 2004 hurricanes there substantial damage to the school's grounds and the surrounding area. There has also been some instances of vandalism, but not severe with some being attributed to cats in the herb gardens shredding up catnip.[citation needed] The school is very successful being an A+ school with five stars.[citation needed]

The school is located on Shepard Road in Winter Springs, Florida. The property covers an area that is about 480,000 feet[citation needed] with the perimeter being surrounded by woods. The land includes gardens, a field, a pavilion, two story brick school building, a car ramp and a bus ramp.
