High Sierra Industries

High Sierra Industries (HSI) is organization that helps people with disabilities in Reno, Nevada. The organization, founded in 1977, provides value-added services provided to light manufacturing, assembly and contract landscaping customers.

HIS is noted for hosting X-treme Ability Challenge (XAC) each year in Reno, Nevada. This event demonstrates to local business leaders, elected officials, and members of the media what it is like to work from the perspective of a person with a disability. Activities include opening and closing a door while in a wheel chair, relay races and building things with a temporary impairment. [1] [2]

The University of Nevada has reported the direct economic impact of High Sierra Industries is over $7 million per year and employs 240 people. Taking into consideration economic linkages economic effect is estimated to be $12.4 million, and has created 293 jobs. [3]
