The High Sheriff of South Yorkshire is a current High Sheriff title which has existed since 1974, the holder is changed anually every March.[1] Traditionally the entire area of Yorkshire was covered by the High Sheriff of Yorkshire, but after the controversial Local Government Act 1972 the commission decided to switch the 1000 year old title to smaller covered areas. This included South Yorkshire and its sheriff title. Notably within Yorkshire, Hallamshire was unique in that it had a High Sheriff of Hallamshire from 1962 until 1974. Below is a list of the sheriffs.[1]
