Hank Greenberg (1911-1986) was the first well-known Jewish player in American Baseball's Major Leagues. He made news for not playing on Yom Kippur. (He played on Rosh Hashana.) During World War II Mr. Greenberg served in the U.S. Army and missed four seasons. He was the first Jewish owner/general manager in baseball and first Jewish player elected to baseball's Hall of Fame.
