[edit] Portal does not seem to meet minimum portal requirements
To quote Wikipedia:Portal guidelines "Please bear in mind that portals should be about broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers. Do not create a portal if you do not intend to assist in its regular maintenance", and in Wikipedia:Portal guidelines#Article selection, "Find a good number of articles ... of high quality, either a featured article, a good article or one which deals with its subject substantially or comprehensively; describing a major topic or person notable within the portal topic area; have no tags displayed denoting clean-up, copyright violation, controversy or similar; not marked as a stub", with "good number" being about 30. Wikipedia:WikiProject Hermetism has only tagged 22 total articles, 25% short of 30, none of which are FA or GA status, only 7 of which are even B-Class, and 4 of them are tagged for clean-up or similar. In short, this portal, as it stands, fall very short of the minimum requirements for a portal, if we are to take the articles tagged by the Hermitism project as being the scope of this portal, with maybe 3 qualifying articles tagged by the related project. I very much suggest that the scope of this portal be much more clearly defined, and in such a way that it is more inclusive than the number of articles yet tagged by the accompanying project, or it will almost certainly be deleted, probably rather quickly. - Agreed. Its going to be moved to a broader topic, such as Hermetic/Hermeticism once I figure out why the links wont work in this one. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 23:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- If you can be a bit more specific what you mean by that, I could probably figure out how to do it, or, alternatively, create a new portal there. I've made about a dozen, well, generally unimpressive portals, but I could at least do the basic set up of the new portal, if that's what you want, fairly easily, and possibly even some of the early related article selection. Would we be talking about the articles in the Category:Hermeticism or some other criteria for inclusion? John Carter (talk) 23:12, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- When the portal first pops up, there are all red links. When you click on whats new, the portal shows a few things like the featured picture page I created. I'm thinking about just db-athoring it instead of moving all these pages. KV and I, off wiki agreed to changing the portal and the project name to something that reflects the broadness of the subject. I only created this portal to show him how and so he can work on it. But it was my original opinion that this should be called Portal:Hermeticism. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 23:21, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I take it that you know how to create the new portal there yourself, having created this one. Once you've done that though this portal could be speedy deleted as non-controversial housekeeping. Let me know when you're done, and what the scope of articles you want the portal to include is, and I can try to help, provided I'm not tied up elsewhere. - Thanks, I appreciate your willingness to help. I'll let you know on your talk page when the portal is created. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 23:46, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
