Hermann Schmid is the author of the book Decimal Computation which was first published in 1974 by John Wiley & Sons (ISBN 047176180X) and reprinted in 1983 by Robert E. Krieger Publishing Company (ISBN 0898743184).

The book comprises twelve chapters describing computation in decimal:

  1. Introduction (number systems, BCD codes, applications)
  2. Addition and Subtraction (binary and BCD)
  3. Multiplication
  4. Division
  5. Square root
  6. Logarithm and exponentials
  7. Trigonometic functions
  8. Hyperbolic functions
  9. Fixed versus floating-point operation
  10. Review of logic circuits
  11. References
  12. Appendices.

This is probably the most complete work describing decimal calculations on computers; however later papers by other authors should be consulted also (see also the Decimal Bibliography).
