Herma Shipyard Inc. is the world's largest Filipino-owned major shipyard[citation needed]. It is located at Mariveles, Bataan, 34 nautical miles (157 kilometers by road) west of Manila, the capital. The Shipyard can be reached by ferry, car, or bus, and offers a full range of maritime services for shipowners[citation needed]. This facility is centrally located along well-traversed shipping routes of domestic and international trade, such as Batangas-Manila Bay route.[citation needed]
The Shipyard has a total land area of 17 hectares and is located within a natural cove which helps protect the facilities from adverse weather conditions and strong winds brought about by Northeast monsoon, which usually occurs from November to April.[citation needed]
The company started out in the year 2000 and offers a wide variety of services for tankers, self-propelled barges, inter-island passenger and commercial vessels, ship transport vessels, military vessels and other marine vessels of up to 10,000 metric tons of deadweight (DWT). Herma Shipyard also offers a range of industrial services from light industrial equipment and machine parts to customized ship outfitting. The Chairman and CEO is Herminio S. Esguerra.
