[edit] What is Hereditary Nobility?
Unlike Personal Nobility - that which is granted only for the lifetime of the individual ennobled - Hereditary Nobility can be lawfully passed down [or transmitted] to subsequent generations via primogenital, ulitimogenital, or partible inheritance.
Generally, Primogenital inheritance is transmittal through the eldest son, or first-born, in each subsequent generation; i.e. primogeniture.
Ultimogenital inheritance is transmittal through the youngest son, or last-born in each subsequent generation; i.e. ultimogeniture.
Partible inheritance is transmittal equally through both sons and daughters.
With the dignity of Hereditary Nobility are usually conferred specific rights, privileges and official prerogatives often to which are attached restrictions, limitations and provisions governing its inheritance or transmittal; i.e. through a legally contracted union, or adoption.
Vietnamese Hereditary Nobility bestowed by an Imperial Grant; i.e. Letters Patent or Warrant.
[edit] Nobility and Titles
Nobility is the dignity, state, or condition of being noble; i.e. being raised to the honour and rank of Nobility by ennoblement, or the legal entitlement to that privilege and dignity inherent with birth-right, lineage, inheritance, or adoption.
Titles of Nobility - quite distinct from the dignity or status of Nobility per se - on the other hand, were over time, attached to distinct localities and divisions of land.
Nobility and Nobiliary Titles are quite distinct dignities; i.e. one can be Titled and Noble, yet a Noble does not automatically acquire a Title.
Essentially, one has to be Ennobled - i.e. elevated to the Status of being Noble - before one can be Titled. In the Vietnamese Imperial Realm, one is elevated to the Dignity of Tuoc.
[edit] The Modern Titular Nobility of Vietnam
For the sake of the happiness of the people of Vietnam, their Independence, for Vietnam's release and freedom from the dicatorial yoke of communism and the return of a Democratic Monarchy to Vietnam, His Imperial Highness Prince Regent Nhiep Chinh Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam [1], the Duke of Kien Hoa - acting by official mandate and authority accorded by Imperial Edict of His Imperial Majesty Bao Dai, Emperor of Vietnam, and with adherence to his prerogatives, rights and responsibilities as Regent of Vietnam - from time-to-time raises loyal, trusty and beloved patriots and ardent supporters to the esteemed rank and responsibility of Hereditary Vietnamese Nobility.
By Letters Patent - Signed and Sealed under Sovereign Authority - those so ennobled are often granted Hereditary Vietnamese Nobiliary Titles which are both recognised, and lawfully as equal in status, prestige and lustre as any European Title of Nobility.
The inheritance and transmittal of Hereditary Vietnamese Nobility and Nobiliary Titles are governed by the provisions as contained in the Honoree's Letters Patent.
Customarily, Hereditary Vietnamese Nobility is bestowed on an individual, his children, present and future of both sexes - sons in perpetuity and daughters until marriage - provided that they are legitimately born, whilst Hereditary Vietnamese Nobiliary Titles are additionally transmittable by pacte de famille; i.e. whereby a Titled Nobleman seeks an agreement [made during his lifetime] between family members as to the inheritance and transmittal of his Hereditary Vietnamese Nobiliary Title upon his demise.
The Designation 'Tuoc' Denotes a 'Titled Noble'.

The Following are Cumulative Lists - in Descending Order of Rank - of the Titular Nobility of Vietnam.
This Cumulative Roll of Honor includes only those who have had bestowed upon them Hereditary Vietnamese Nobility and Nobiliary Titles between the Lunar Years [5] of the Ram [2003] and the Lunar Year of the Pig [2007] inclusive.
PLEASE NOTE: Those Ranks of Nobiliary Honor accorded were correct as at their time of bestowal upon those so honored.
Honorees may have since been subsequently elevated to a higher Hereditary Vietnamese Imperial Title of Nobility for services to the Imperial Grand Council and H.I.H. Prince Regent Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam, so there may be multiple entries.
