"HNF-1α and HNF-1β are atypical homeodomain proteins. HNF-4α is a steroid nuclear receptor family member. HNF-4α has been shown to control the expression of the gene encoding HNF-1α. HNF-4α is in turn controlled by HNF-3α and HNF-3β. A precise operation of this circuit is crucial for normal hepatocyte differentiation and function. On the other hand, evidence for the existence of HNF-1α regulated circuit specifically active in pancreatic cells has also been presented recently. Mutations in the genes encoding HNF-1β and HNF-4α are two of the six known forms of mature onset diabetes of the young (MODY)." (Ref:Hansen et al. 2002.
