Henry Wolsey Bayfield

Henry Wolsey Bayfield, (21 January 1795 – 10 February 1885), was a British born (Hull, Yorkshire), naval officer and hydrographic surveyor. In June 1817, he was appointed Admiralty surveyor in British North America.
In his career he surveyed the Great Lakes, the coast of Labrador and the coast of Nova Scotia amongst others. He attained the rank of Admiral in 1867. During his survey of Georgian Bay he named Byng Inlet in honor of British admiral John Byng.
