A certain receptor, AhR (aryl hydrocarbon receptor) and other transcription factors have, according to my sources, "a basic helix-loop-helix motif". I'd like to know if basic in this context means "elementary, simple, merely functional" or alkaline, the opposite of acidic. -Samulili 20:01, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

the latter - it's a frequent feature of DNA binding motif nomenclature, for example in the bZIP domain of the Leucine zipper DNA binding motif, the DNA binding region comprises a number of basic aminoacids such as arginine and lysine. Philbradley 14:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
