The name Helene has three syllables, but the placement of the accent is disputed. JPL sites generally have [he-LEE-nee], whereas traditional mythology has [HELL-eh-nee], parallel to Helenus, for example in the Dictionary of Classical Mythology (JE Zimmerman, Harper & Row, 1964).

Since the penult is light in the Greek (open syllable, short vowel), traditional literary English (Latinate) stress rules would place the stress on the antepenult. --kwami 02:36, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
