Hellissandur
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hellissandur is a part of Snæfellsbær at Snæfellsnes on West-Iceland. According to 2005 census, Hellissandur has 400 inhabitants.
One of the most remarkable points of interest in Hellissandur is the Snæfellsjökull Glacier, made famous by Jules Verne in the Journey to the Center of the Earth. Just outside of the town, there is the northern entrance to the Snæfellsjökull National Park, which surrounds the western and southern sides of the glacier. Also, rather remarkable, is the 412 metre tall Gufuskálar-radio mast, the tallest structure of Western Europe.
