Helen Hardin (also known as Tsa-sah-wee-eh, which means "Little Standing Spruce") was an artist who lived from 1942-1984. She was the daughter of an Anglo-American man, Herbert Hardin, Former Chief of Public Safety, State Dept. and a Native American woman artist named Pablita Velarde - a descendant of the Tewa Indians Santa Clara Pueblo (New Mexico). Hardin became known for painting complex works that combined colorful images and symbols from her Native American heritage with modern abstract art techniques.
