[edit] Founding date

Several sites give founding dates of 1884 or 1887. 1884 is absurd: Yiddish theater in America was two years old at that time, and nearly amateur. I suspect that some prominent site got this wrong and others have been propagating it. 1887 is just barely imaginable, but most of the most reliable sources I've seen, including Lulla Rosenfeld's commentary to Jacob Adler's memoir, give 1899, which would make it just slightly before other actors began to unionize. -- Jmabel | Talk 07:15, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)

The website of the Screen Actors Guild says 1899. "1899: Hebrew Actors Union founded by Jewish labor leader Joseph Barondess" SOURCE: http://www.sag.org/history/chronos_pages/pre_guild.html
