[edit] Organization
I don't know much about portals, but upon first glance I feel that this one could use some major reorganization and editing. The impression given, after the intro with the WHO definition, is that health is basically Fitness and nutrition - i.e., one has to scroll down quite far to get to anything besides those two topics. Also, what is that Tae Kwan Do picture doing there??? Finally, the prominance of a bio of Linus Carl Pauling seems strange. Nothing against Pauling, but he is not really the most relevant person to health. What about John Snow, whom some consider the founder of Epidemiology?
Basically it seems like a hodgepodge. I think it would be a good idea to move the category boxes up to the top so that there is an immediate way to get to a variety of health topics. Isn't that the idea of a portal? A relatively good model is the portal:Medicine. ALso, the selected articles on fitness and nutrition could be shortened and one on Public health, for example, could be added.
I don't know how to work all the boxes well, and I don't have time to learn right now. If no one gets to this I will come back and work on this, but if anyone wants to take a stab, I encourage them.--Chinawhitecotton 08:01, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] P.S.
I also just noticed that no pages link here. Seems like that could be remedied once the portal is cleaned up.--Chinawhitecotton 08:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] localhands.com link
A link to localhands.com, a commercial site for Massage Therapy were recently added to your 'Reference links" page - and now appears on the portal page.[1]. Is the link appropriate here, or should it be removed? --Versageek 16:42, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Related portals
Would you consider Portal:Sports and games to be a related portal or not? 62.136.163.200 (talk) 21:49, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] {{Advert}} tag in "References links"
I have added an {{Advert}} tag to Portal:Health_and_fitness/Reference_links. I have done this rather than using {{db-spam}} because I am assuming good faith and giving the benefit of the doubt, though this is almost certainly not a genuine reference list in the way Wikipedia uses references.
If it is a genuine reference list, it needs to be cited in-text with footnotes, and then generated with a {{reflist}} (see here for an example). References are used to corroborate a claim made elsewhere in the text; they are not a list of possible additional information sources. If that was the intention, it should be in a section called "External links" which should appear at the very bottom of the page, if at all. --Msanford (talk) 17:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Additionally, I forgot to mention before that there are some obviously non-spam links in this list (e.g., "Indices of health-related articles on the internet"), so I do not think it's appropriate to mark the whole thing for speedy deletion (at this time). --Msanford (talk) 17:50, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
