The Hearts of San Francisco Project was sponsored by San Francisco General Hospital Foundation. 130 recognized and emerging American artist were chosen to re-work the Sculptures and give new themes. Every "Heart Sculpture" had a sponsor that reflected the unique idea of the artist.[1] Each heart was Auctioned of to benefit the San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center.[2] Over 2,000,000.00 dollars were raised for the cause. Artists participating in the project include Roy DeForest, Squeak Carnwath, Alan Chin, and Stan Dann.[3]
