Hayrünnisa Gül
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hayrünnisa Gül, or sometimes Hayrunnisa Gul, is the wife of President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gül. They have two sons and one daughter.[1]
She has attracted controversy by wearing a hijab, seen by some as a symbol of political Islam. She is the first hijab-wearing wife of a president in Turkey's modern history.[2] Her wearing of a headscarf led her to be refused enrolment on a course at Ankara University[1], and brought controversy to the state visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Turkey in May 2008.[3]
