Talk:Hawker Hunter Tower Bridge incident

Just reading the pages about the Pollock Incident.
The Hunter, along with three others from 1 Squadron, was visiting RAF Tangmere in Sussex for an overnight stay and already had performed a flypast over the city of Chichester. They then turned for a beat-up of the Goodwood airfield where a former RAF pilot, Peter Philips was airfield manager. A short aerobatics display then followed over the airfoeld and the team landed. As the four-ship team taxyed in, all pilots donned their straw boaters - apparently a long held custom and the team shut down their charges and went off to the officer's mess.
I was at Tangmere that day and there was a rumour that "...tomorrow, they are going to do something rather daring..." This deed was for one of the aircraft to fly through Tower Bridge and this was reported on the BBC news at midday.
Very fond of the Hunter, this incident I have regailed at many dinner parties but I am sure that not many people believe me. It is great to see the report on it.
