Hatano Jazz Band

Hatano Jazz Band was the first jazz band in Japan and was founded by students and graduates from Toyo Music School in 1912. The leader of the band Fukutaro Hatano who brought jazz to Japan.

- 1912: The band performed on Toyo streamship that is called tisenmaru following from Yokohama harbor to San Francisco.
- 1915: They played accompaniment of movie in a silent movie theater.
- 1918: The band became popular, and then played also during interval of movie.
- 1922: Fukutaro Hatano organized a larger orchestra band with his fellows.
