Harrisweed is a pseudonym based on the name Harris Sweed, Bill Ritchie's alias. As Bill Ritchie, I am an artist and one-time art professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. It was in the 1970s, during the so-called "conceptual art" movement, that I adopted the name Harris Sweed to go with ideas of postal-art, i.e., artist's stamps and similar systems esthetics. I took early retirement from the UW over a controversy about the future of art education, and have since given all my time to the idea of ghosts in the new machine--the computer and networks. As a contributor to Wikipedia, I bring out and describe notable ghosts whose work I have made part of my archives of videos and digital data. These are artists who made--and are making--significant contributions to regional and national art history.Harrisweed (talk) 17:31, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
