Harare (IPA: [həˈrɑreɪ] or [həˈrɑri], formerly Salisbury) is the capital of Zimbabwe. It has an estimated population of 1,600,000, with 2,800,000 in its metropolitan area (2006). It is Zimbabwe's largest city and its administrative, commercial, and communications centre. The city is a trade centre for tobacco, maize, cotton, and citrus fruits. Manufactures include textiles, steel, and chemicals, and gold is mined in the area. Harare is situated at an elevation of 4,865 feet (1,483 metres) and has a temperate climate.

Harare is the site of the University of Zimbabwe, the largest and most complete institution of higher learning in Zimbabwe. Despite the renaming of the city, some suburbs have retained their European names, such as Warren Park 'D', Borrowdale, Mount Pleasant, Marlborough, Tynwald and Avondale.

The 2003 Cricket World Cup (Official name: ICC Cricket World Cup 2003™) was played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya from February 9 to March 24. 2003 was the first time that the Cricket World Cup was held in Africa. The tournament featured 14 teams and 54 matches, the most in the tournament history at the time. The tournament followed the format introduced in the 1999 Cricket World Cup with the teams divided into 2 groups, and the top three in each group qualifying for the "Super-6" stage. The tournament saw upsets in the first round with South Africa, Pakistan, West Indies, and England failing to make it to Super-6 stage while Zimbabwe and Kenya made it to Super-6 stage and Kenya made the semi-finals of the tournament.

The tournament was won by Australia who defeated India in the final.

St George's College, Harare

St George's College, based in Harare, Zimbabwe, is a secondary school.

It was founded in 1896 in Bulawayo, the second largest city in what was then Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) by Fr Marc Barthélemy, a French Jesuit. In 1937 it was moved to Southern Rhodesia's capital of Salisbury, now called Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. The school has had a long and distinguished history of liberalism and excellence in education, and for many years was one of very few multiracial schools in the then Rhodesia.

Elias Mudzuri is the Mayor of Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe.

Mudzuri was elected to a four-year term as Mayor of Harare, a city of 1.8 million, in March 2002. Trained in Sierra Leone as a civil engineer, the mayor is a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers. Before becoming mayor, he had worked in local government for fourteen years.

Mudzuri is a member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the opposition party led by Morgan Tsvangirai. His election as mayor came about after Harare's citizens sued the national government for autonomous elections, required by the nation's constitution but never held. From 1999 forward, President Mugabe had appointed ministers of the national government to run local government in Harare, which was illegal under the constitution.
