Harold Maguire

Air Marshal Sir Harold John Maguire, KCB, DSO, OBE, (April 12, 1912 – 2001) was Director-General of Intelligence at the British Ministry of Defence (1968 – 1972).
Harold Maguire was born in Kilkishen, County Clare, Ireland, on April 12, 1912. Educated at Wesley College, Dublin and Trinity College Dublin, Harold Maguire joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1933.
He was awarded the DSO in 1946 for the gallant example he had set to his fellow captives while he was a Prisoner of War during the Japanese invasions of Sumatra and Java in 1942. Harold Maguire was appointed OBE in 1949 and CB in 1958. He was knighted and advanced to KCB in 1966.
