Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harmondsworth is the UK's largest immigration removal centre, an immigration detention centre next to Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre, near Heathrow Airport. It holds around 500 men.

It is run by Kalyx part of the Sodexho, for the UK Home Office.

In 2006, Anne Owers HM Inspector of Prisons (HMIP) reported that Harmondsworth "had been allowed to slip into a culture and approach which was wholly at odds with its stated purpose" further "It is essentially a problem of management, and it is of some concern that this had not been fully identified and resolved earlier by the contractor and the Immigration and Nationality Directorate." Sergey Barnuyck died there in 2004 and in 2006, Bereket Yohannes also died there as a prisoner.
