Hara Masatane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hara Masatane (原昌胤? 1531 - June 29, 1575) was a senior retainer of the Takeda clan during the late Sengoku period of Japanese history.

Masatane was related partially by blood to his fellow Takeda general, Hara Toratane, but belonged to a separate family branches, though the two still treated one another as brothers. As Masatane was highly reputed for being one of Takeda Shingen's Twenty-Four Generals, he supported the Toratane throughout many various campaigns and battles over the years, including the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561, in which he and Takeda Nobukado acted as the left wing of Shingen's Woodpecker formation. Going on to support the Takeda during the Battle of Mimasetoge in 1569, Masatane earned additional repute and regard as being one of Shingen's Twenty-Four Generals. Masatane was killed during the Battle of Nagashino in 1575, possibly by means of initially being a commanding officer of the Takeda's elite cavalry unit, in which he was torn apart by the unparalleled potential of Oda Nobunaga's newly acquired arqubusiers.
