Happy Life Years

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A concept developed by the Dutch Sociologist Ruut Veenhoven[1], this is a proxy measure of well-being combining subjective data (subjective life satisfaction, measured on a scale of 0 to 10) and objective data (life expectancy).

Happy Life Years = ( Life Satisfaction × Life Expectancy ) / 10

Happy Life Years was used in the recent Happy Planet Index developed by the new economics foundation (nef) in July 2006, to explore the sustainability of our well-being.
