Hamblen County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Together with Grainger and Jefferson counties, it is part of the Morristown, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area which is, as of December 2005, considered a component of the Knoxville-Sevierville-La Follette, TN Combined Statistical Area.[1] As of 2000, the population was 58,128. The 2005 Census Estimate placed the population at 59,898 [2]. Its county seat is Morristown[1].

Hamblen County was created in 1870 from Jefferson, Grainger, and Greene Counties. The county is named in honor of Hezekiah Hamblen (1775 - 1854), an early settler, landowner, attorney, and member of the Hawkins County Court for many years.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 176 square miles (455 km²), of which, 161 square miles (417 km²) of it is land and 15 square miles (38 km²) of it (8.39%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 58,128 people, 23,211 households, and 16,595 families residing in the county. The population density was 361 people per square mile (139/km²). There were 24,693 housing units at an average density of 153 per square mile (59/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 90.72% White, 4.12% Black or African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 3.32% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 5.68% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 23,211 households out of which 30.50% had children under the living with them, 56.10% were married couples living together, 11.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.50% were non-families. 24.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.60% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the county, the population was spread out with 23.30% under the , 8.90% from 18 to 24, 29.60% from 25 to 44, 24.90% from 45 to 64, and 13.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $32,350, and the median income for a family was $39,138. Males had a median income of $30,009 versus $21,309 for females. The per capita income for the county was $17,743. 14.40% of the population and 10.50% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.80% are under the and 15.80% are 65 or older.
