[edit] First I have some questions about units that I already was able to include in the graphic

    • Is "Batalionu Piechoty Zmotoryzowanej" correctly translated as “Motorized Battalion”?
      • It means roughly "of a battalion of motorized infantry".
    • What are: "kompania łączności", "kompania ochrony i regulacji ruchu", "kompania wsparcia".
      • kompania łączności is "signals company" (lit. "company of communications")
      • kompania ochrony i regulacji ruchu means "company of protection and regulation of traffic". Could be road traffic or air traffic (not clear from the context)
      • kompania wsparcia is "support company"
    • I translated “Batalion Powietrznodesantowy” as Paratrooper Battalion. Correct?
      • Correct.
    • 10th Logistics Brigade:
      • What does “składowania” mean?
        • składowanie is storage, so most probably this refers to some warehousing unit
      • What does “ewakuacji sprzętu” mean?
        • equipment evacuation
    • 23 Śląska Brygada Artylerii under the link "Struktura BA" you will find the Brigades units: What does “dra” mean? I made a Rocket Artillery Group of it…
      • no idea. "ddow" is most likely short for Command Group (dywizjon dowodzenia); "dar" is a Rocket Artillery Group (dywizjon artylerii rakietowej; they use RM-70 Multiple rocket launchers), "das" is most likely SP Artillery Group (dywizjon artylerii samobieżnej, they use wz. 77 DANA SP howitzers), but what "dra" means..? sorry.
    • I translated “Pułk Samochodowy” as Transport Regiment.
      • yup. Literally it means automobile regiment.
    • I translated “Pułk Ochrony” as Protection Battalion.
      • Wrong, it means Protection Regiment
    • Does “batalionów łączności” mean “Signal Battalion”?
      • yup. Literally it means of battalions of communication.

[edit] Secondly: there is a long list of regiments and battalions listed in the Polish Wikipedia article about the Polish Land Forces. I tried to translate these units, but I do not know where they belong to. Which command is responsible for these units.

    • Samodzielny means independent in Polish... I have no idea what are they part of, or to what unit they are subordinate. In some cases the Polish wiki article mentions that, but in others - no idea.
    • Samodzielne pułki
      • 14 Suwalski Pułk Artylerii Przeciwpancernej (Suwałki) = 14th Anti-Tank Rgt..
      • 4 Pułk Przeciwlotniczy (Czerwieńsk) = 4th Air Defence Rgt.
      • 8 Koszaliński Pułk Przeciwlotniczy (Koszalin) = 8th Air Defence Rgt
      • 1 Dębliński Pułk Drogowo-Mostowy (Dęblin) - jednostka Pomorskiego OW = ???
        • This one is attached to Pomorski Okręg Wojskowy - Pomeranian Military Area. It's name means 1st Dęblin Road-Bridge Construction Regiment
      • 2 Inowrocławski Pułk Komunikacyjny (Inowrocław) = 2nd Signals or PsyOps Rgt.?
        • 2nd Inowrocław Communications Regiment. It's not clear whether the communications in this context means signals or transport, but I guess the earlier.
      • 3 Włocławski Pułk Drogowo-Mostowy (Włocławek) - jednostka Śląskiego OW = ???
        • as per above translation (1 Dębliński Pułk Drogowo-Mostowy). This one is apparently attached directly to Silesian Military Area (Śląski Okręg Wojskowy).
      • 5 Pułk Inżynieryjny (Szczecin) = ???
        • 5th Engineering Regiment
      • 9 Pułk Dowodzenia(Białobrzegi) = 9th Command Btn.
        • Nope, it's Regiment, not Battalion
      • 49 Pułk Śmigłowców Bojowych (Pruszcz Gdański) = ???
        • 49th Regiment of Combat Helicopters
      • 56 Kujawski Pułk Śmigłowców Bojowych (Inowrocław) = ???
        • 56th Cuyavian Regiment of Combat Helicopters
      • 1 Pułk Specjalny Komandosów (Lubliniec) = 1st Special Forces Rgt.
        • Literally 1st Special Commando Regiment
      • 2 Hrubieszowski Pułk Rozpoznawczy (Hrubieszów) = 2nd Reconnaissance Rgt. – is this a Special Forces unit?
        • I found info on this one: it is subordinate directly to the Command of Land Forces. It is composed of four recce companies:
          • one equipped with 8 BPzV and BRDM,
          • two companies with BRDM and R-5 command vehicles
          • fourth company (special) equipped with all-terrain vehicles (likely Hummers, trikes, Honkers and such)
          • 5th company is the radio-electronic unit.
          • services (non-combat units): contamination evaluation platoon, medical company, supply company and engineering company.
      • 9 Warmiński Pułk Rozpoznawczy (Lidzbark Warmiński) = 9th Reconnaissance Rgt. – is this a Special Forces unit?
        • don't think so, rather their structure is similar to the 2nd Recce Rgt (with one "special" company and four companies of traditional reconnaissance.
      • 4 Pułk Chemiczny (Brodnica) = NBC Rgt.
        • The name suggests only C Rgt, not sure if N and B are within their scope ;)

    • Samodzielne bataliony i kompanie
      • independent battalions and companies
      • 100 Batalion Łączności (Szczecin) – jednostka Międzynarodowego Korpusu Północ-Wschód = 100th Signals Btn.
        • Yup. Currently attached to the Multinational Corps Northeast
      • 8 Batalion Walki Radioelektronicznej (Grudziądz) = 8th Signals Btn.
        • Nope. It's 8th Battalion of Radio-electronic Warfare. Not sure what the proper English name is.
      • 11 Batalion Walki Radioelektronicznej (Legnica) = 11th Signals Btn.
        • As above
      • 5 Batalion Chemiczny (Tarnowskie Góry) = 5th NBC Btn.
        • 5th Chemical Battalion
      • 1 Batalion Zabezpieczenia Dowództwa Wojsk Lądowych (Warszawa) = ???
        • 1st Battalion of Protection of the Land Forces Headquarters
      • 1 Kujawsko-Pomorski Batalion Zabezpieczenia Okręgu Wojskowego (Bydgoszcz) = ???
      • 2 Batalion Dowodzenia Okręgu Wojskowego (Wrocław) = 2nd Command Btn. ??
        • Yup. A proper full name would be 2nd Command Battalion of the Silesian Military Area
      • 28 Batalion Dowozu Amunicji = 28 Ammunition Btn.
        • Ammunition Supply Battalion
      • 3 bataliony remontowe (52, 55, 112) = Maintenance Btn.
        • It's three Maintenance Battalions (Nos. 52, 55 and 112)
      • 8 batalionów zaopatrzenia (75, 82, 86, 91, 95, 97, 107, 122) = Supply Btn.
        • eight battalions, not a single one.
      • 6 batalionów ratownictwa inżynieryjnego (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) = ???
        • six battalions of engineering rescue or technical salvaging. In short, I guess these guys care for pulling damaged tanks out of the battle, and so on. No idea what the proper English term is.
      • ponadto m. in. 2 kompanie kontroli ruchu 2 kompanie transportu ciężkiego itp. = ???
        • in addition, two companies of traffic control and two companies of heavy transport

[edit] Third: These are the Brigades of which I could not find any information and therefore they are only in the graphic with the Brigade icon, but all their units are missing

Can you help? thanks, --noclador 16:57, 25 June 2007 (UTC) S
