[edit] Propose Move

Shouldn't this be moved to Half.com Oregon since (from what I gather) that is the actual towns name. Deathawk 14:42, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Methinks the official name is still Halfway, the nice publicity stunt notwithstanding:
  1. I checked the Oregon State website, the USPS website, and Yahoo maps, but the name "Half.com" couldn't be found; only the name "Halfway" is used.
  2. The town's own website states, "Halfway (also known as Half.com), population 345, is a picturesque community...." Note that the name that comes first is Halfway, while Half.com appears as an alias.
  3. I wonder if a mere city council's proclamation would have been enough to change the town's name. According to this article, the United States Geological Survey has responsibility for the formal naming of municipalities and geographic features. Taking into consideration the fact that the USGS has deprecated the apostrophe since 1890 (only five place names in the U.S. are officially spelled with an apostrophe, as of 2005), I wonder if it would have allowed such an unusual name (with a dot in the middle) to be the official name of a town.
