[edit] Title of film

Why is the film so titled? Thanks. (JosephASpadaro 09:26, 11 March 2007 (UTC))

Ha, Spadaro beat me to the same question I had. Whyever is it so titled? --Frenkmelk talk 19:50, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
A "half nelson" is a wrestling move – a hold in which a wrestler, from behind the opponent, passes one arm under the corresponding arm of the opponent and locks the hand on the back of the opponent's neck. When you are in a half nelson, it is hard to breathe and you feel completely helpless, and the film's title is a metaphor in relation to this. The main character (Dan) can't escape his addiction, in the same way that it is very difficult to escape from a half nelson. However, although it's very difficult to get out of a half nelson, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're about to lose the wrestling match. In this film, it metaphorically means that the main characters Dan and Drey are both in difficult situations – ones that are difficult to escape, but ones that they might possibly escape. (Joseph A.
