Does this (version of) Haldir actually even exist in the books?

Does this version of Haldir exist in Tolkien's books? And if so does he still die in the war?

In the article it says that the film version of Haldir died being struck (first on the arm which is correct and then) to the head, which I think is incorrect. He was in fact struck to upper back or neck, probably severing his spine. (written by "Lolinde")

And to the question above, Haldir does exist in the books also, but it's not the same version of Haldir as in the films. In the books, Haldir (and the elven warriors he is leading in the film) never go to Helm's Deep. However in the books, orcs are attacking the borders of Lothlorien and Rivendell as well as Rohan and Gondor in attempt to destroy all the free people (men, dwarves and elves) of middle earth. So he was doing his fair share of the fighting I'm sure, defending his own people instead of the people of Rohan. (written by "Lolinde")
