Haltom City Police Department

The Haltom City Police Department (HCPD) serves the city of Haltom City, Texas in Tarrant County. The HCPD consists of approximately 100 sworn and civilian employees. It has been headed by Chief Ken Burton since 2003.

Haltom City is divided into 5 patrol districts. Each district is assigned a Sergeant, and at least one officer works in a district per 12 hour shift. In addition, there are specialized K-9, Crime Scene, SWAT and Criminal Investigation officers for assignment to special projects and duties.
Other support departments falling under the police department are animal services, communications, community services, detention and professional standards
The administration is comprised of the Chief of Police, one Assistant Chief, three Lieutenants and an Administrative Assistant. Two Lieutenants are assigned to the patrol division, and one Lieutenant assists with support staff administration.
[edit] Line of Duty Deaths
The HCPD has had one death in the line of duty.[1] On March 6, 1993, Police Officer Gary C. Hires was shot and killed by a 16-year-old with a rifle and killed while responding to a 9-1-1 call of shots fired. The suspect was also killed in the incident. Officer Hires had been with the agency for 19 years and is survived by his wife, three sons, and two brothers.[2]
