A hair drop is a ceremonial object of the Plains Indians of North America. The typical example consists of a quilled or beaded section on a strip of leather with a length of horse hair hanging below.
As more Europeans arrived on Plains Indian lands, glass beadwork replaced a portion of the once prevalent porcupine quillwork. Hair drops are frequently adorned with metal cones and feathers. The horse hair drop can be dyed for effect, see the example picture.
